Mindful Mandala Drawing for Children
In partnership with ANZACATA registered Creative Arts Therapist Amanda Musicka-Williams, Artly Therapy has developed an evidence based, online Mindful Mandala Drawing Program for schools, supporting Tier 1 interventions.
Students are guided to draw mandalas inspired by plants indigenous to Victoria while learning about First People’s use of the plants. Each module also introduces one of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing practices during each session, enabling students to build a mental health tool kit they can draw on for life.
Module 1
This session introduces the first of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing: Being Active. We explore the deep breathing and the body-scan relaxation techniques and learn about the Correa bush and Dja Dja Wurrung First Nation people’s use of it a food source as we are guided to draw the Correa inspired Mandala.
Module 2
This session introduces the second of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing: Giving. We explore aspects of giving and receiving, while being guided to draw a Chocolate Lily inspired Mandala and learn about Dja Dja Wurrung First Nation people’s use of it a food source.

We explore the 3 Sensation Focus mindfulness practice while we are guided to draw a Kangaroo Grass inspired mandala and learn how the Gunditjmara and other First Nation peoples used it to make string for baskets, nets and traps.
Module 4
This session introduces the fourth of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing: Connecting. We explore aspects of connecting while being guided to draw a Lomandra inspired Mandala and learn about the Wurundjeri First Nation people’s Yarra Tribe use of it as a weaving material for baskets, mats and eel traps.
Module 5
This session introduces the fifth of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing: Keep Learning. We explore aspects of learning while being guided to draw a Nardoo plant inspired mandala. We learn about Wemba Wemba and other First Nation people’s use of it as a food source.
